Lately: Switching Cities

Summer 2016 has been amazing so far, and it’s about to get even better. But, before I talk about the future, I’m going to post an update about what I’ve been up to lately. Here are the highlights: I went on a city trip to Venice, I ate super rare ice cream flavours in Belgium, and I got attacked by cows (and survived). I’ll also be switching cities soon, so I’ll tell you more about that!

Venice City Trip

My best friend Esther and I always go on at least one summer adventure every year. Usually we try to go to the beach as often as we can, but this year we decided to go international. We ended up picking Venice as our summer destination. Yes, it was absolutely loaded with tourists, but hey, it’s Venice! The place is so pretty, it doesn’t even seem real. We even managed to spend a day at the beach on Lido island!

Switching Cities

I’m really happy I managed to make some really cool travel plans for the summer, but I’ve actually been enjoying summer in Breda just as much! Well, whenever it isn’t raining. Breda Drijft (Breda Floats) is always a killer event! You can buy tickets and go into the water with an inflateable swimming pool (and lots of alcohol, for some). It’s organised every summer. Look at all those people floating on the city waters. It’s slighty insane!

It’s going to be a bit bittersweet to leave Breda. I’ll be switching cities again soon. I’m moving back to Amsterdam, so I’m going to miss being in Breda on a regular basis. I’ve already moved most of my stuff and I’m starting uni again in September.

Attacked by Cows

One thing I love about summer in the Netherlands is how the sun sets very late in the evening. The best way to spend summer evenings is to go on a bike ride. I usually go on wonderfully peaceful excursions, but this time was different. I could smell it in the air (cow poop). That day, I got stopped in traffic. The officers proceeded to inspect my vehicle by giving it an in-depth licking. What followed was a classic ‘good cop bad cop’ approach. One kept coming up to get petted, the other came in for a headbutt. I managed to reclaim my bike and escape in the nick of time. Near-death experiences really do change your outlook on life. My bicycle obviously suffered the worst. You don’t get molested by a cow every day.

Summer Vacation in Belgium

Belgium isn’t a destination you would probably think of for spending your summer vacation, but it’s defintely underrated! Aside from incredibly charming cities like Ghent, Antwerp, and Bruges, the country is also a great hiking and cycling destination. The name Turnhouts Vennengebied loosely translates into the Marshes of Turnhout. The incredibly diverse natural area consists of fens, heathland, grassland, (agricultural) meadows, marshes, and forest. You can read more about the area’s Roman history in my blog post!

Currently: Indonesia

That’s what I’ve been doing lately. I’ve been having a great few weeks. Currently, I’m in Indonesia. Don’t forget to follow my updates on Instagram!
