Czech Republic: Exploring the Bozkov Caves

Have you ever wondered where you can find the most beautiful natural areas in the Czech Republic? The Bozkov Caves may just be what you’re looking for! This impressive underground system of caves can be found near the Krkonoše mountains.

The Bozkov Caves

The Bozkov Dolomite Caves were pretty incredible to see, even if the special lighting might have helped emphasize its magical character. The tour guide showed us a few dolomite formations that were quite famous for resembling e.g. a statue of virgin mary, but to me, the natural features of the formations were striking enough without looking for some religious token, like the quirky-looking stalagmites in the second photo above. It’s definitely one of the most impressive caves I’ve visited, not far behind the ones we saw whilst visiting Curaçao.

The Adršpach-Teplice Rocks

The Adršpach-Teplice Rocks are sandstone formations in the North-East of the Czech Republic. The area is quite famous for its tall and unusually shaped rocks. Much like the one in the last photo, which strongly resembles a lion’s head. It felt quite unreal suddenly walking through narrow passageways and passing these slender and tall rocks, which almost seemed out of place. Apparently, much of the area used to be the bottom of a lake of some sort, which could explain the surreal quality of the place.

  1. these are great!!
just a technical wordpress question, how did you get your pictures to display so big? when I inserted mine in one of my posts it is limited to 100% and is very small

    1. Hi, thanks! There’s an option to set a picture’s resolution to its original size. WordPress often automatically downsizes a picture’s size to a “medium” size, that’s why it often comes out smaller. Hope this helps!
