Amsterdam Life Update: What I did in Autumn 2014

Time for a bit of a personal update for Autumn 2014! I gathered some of my Instagram posts to give you a little overview of my recent activities. I don’t know about you, but I always love seeing what everybody else has been up to. Maybe I’m just a little bit nosy, but it also gives me new ideas and inspirations for future excursions and fun activities. How about you, are you just as curious as I am?

1. Central Amsterdam in Autumn

This is what central Amsterdam looks like in Autumn, probably the prettiest it can look in any season. The fall foliage in combination with the typical canals make the entire city look like a scene from a fairy tale.

2. Golden Hour Cycling

The evening light drastically shortens in Northern Europe as soon as autumn starts, so I went on a few evening bike rides to enjoy the declining rays of sunshine. Who else is a big fan of the golden hour? Photographers should know what I’m talking about!

3. Noordhollands Duinreservaat in November

In November, I went on a solo day trip to the Noordhollands Duinreservaat! The Noordhollands Duinreservaat (North-Holland Dune Reserve) is a long stretch of woodland and dunes on the west coast of the Netherlands. You can find a lot of adorable sheep along the walking routes

4. The Geisha Exhibition

I visited the beautiful GEISHA exhibition in Rijksmusuem Volkenkunde in October. I’ve always been a fan of their elaborate kimono and beautiful hair accessories. It was such a pleasure to see all of those things in real life!

5.  #Shelfie?

I thought I was being funny, so I took a “shelfie” (shadow + selfie) when I was on an evening cycling trip. What do you think? Did I just invent a new hashtag?

6. KLM Experience 2014

I went to the KLM Experience 2014 to celebrate the company’s 95th Birthday. It’s always super interesting to see the  “behind the scenes” at an airport.

7.  My new favourite beanie

The temperatures went down for a bit, so I finally got to wear my amazing owl beanie! Maybe I’m getting too old for these kinds of things, but I like it too much to take myself seriously.

8. The Purple Heathland

I’ve been dreaming of next summer and reminiscing about the beautiful purple heathlands in late summer. If you ever find yourself in the Netherlands in late summer, make sure to head on over to the Veluwe or Veluwezoom to see the heathland.
